About this Webinar
Using simulation and modeling (“in silico- design”) tools is a powerful approach to help healthcare companies of all sizes reduce costs and increase quality in an increasingly challenging business climate. In general, discrete Element Modeling (DEM) and Rocky DEM emerge as a differentiated mechanistic modeling tool to advance process understanding of solid dosage and the small molecule drug manufacturing process.
Most pharmaceutical materials involve particles. Rocky DEM accurately predicts the motion and interactions of discrete particles with each other and the surrounding boundaries and accounts for cohesion, particle deposition, liquid-solid interaction, and particle breakage.
Rocky DEM with/without coupling with computational fluid mechanics (CFD) is increasingly used to simulate pharmaceutical manufacturing and drug delivery systems. This webinar will overview Rocky and its applications to several pharmaceutical unit processes, including tablet coating, powder mixing, blending, drying, inhaler design, and tablet compaction. We will discuss powder drying application in more detail, including the effect of various operating conditions and agitator types on drying rate and time.
What you will learn
- Application of Ansys simulation software in the healthcare industry
- An overview of discrete element modeling (DEM) and how it is relevant to the pharma industry
- Role of DEM and specifically Ansys Rocky as a mechanistic tool in drug manufacturing and drug delivery processes
