Webinar: Modeling Unsteadiness with the Non-Linear Harmonic Method

August 30, 2022 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Date: Wednesday, August 31, 2022

Time: 9:00am CDT | 4:00pm CEST

Why Unsteadiness is Important in Turbomachinery and How to Model it

Owing to its high complexity, unsteady flow in turbomachinery often generates high levels of noise, low efficiency, vibrations, and increased fuel consumption. Those are the most typical challenges engineers try to tackle through CFD analyses when creating new designs or optimizing existing ones for rotating machinery.

Traditional time-domain unsteady methods can simulate all the necessary physics needed to predict performance but are usually too expensive to be fully integrated into the product design phase. Cadence’s Nonlinear Harmonic method (NLH) is a great alternative to conventional approaches as it provides high fidelity results at a fraction of the computational cost.

This webinar will:

  • Cover the basics of the NLH method applied to turbomachinery unsteady flows in an easy-to-digest format.
  • Outline how the essential characteristics of flow periodicity are used as a tool for achieving 100 to 1000 times faster simulations than full-unsteady methods.
  • Demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of NLH through a variety of test cases.
