When designing with bulk materials — rocks, soil, powdered chemicals, food chips, pharmaceutical tablets, etc. — the correct prediction of the structural loading is essential to calculate accurate stresses and strains to ensure the integrity of the equipment. The coupling between discrete element modeling (DEM) and finite element analysis (FEA) allows the user to better understand structural behavior subject to an accurate granular loading (simulated with Rocky DEM).

In this webinar, the coupling methodology employing Rocky DEM and ANSYS Mechanical will be presented along with several industry application examples, including truck loads, bucket excavator, soil tillage and more. Also, a case study will be presented showing how the coupled solution helped a client’s engineering team to improve its equipment design efficiency.
