Responsibilities
The Functional Safety Engineer will be responsible for driving functional safety activities throughout the entire product development lifecycle. Key responsibilities include:
- Functional Safety Management: Leading and coordinating all functional safety activities for assigned programs in accordance with ISO 26262 and our internal management system requirements.
- Competency & Compliance: Work with the Organizational FuSa Manager to ensure all relevant FuSa practices are planned and implemented and the required competencies are in place or covered by proper training.
- Safety planning and monitoring: Creating the safety plan, incorporating it into the overall program planning and monitoring the safety activities and tracking it to completion
- Safety Case Development: Creation and maintenance of the safety case, demonstrating achievement of functional safety
- Stakeholder Communication: Communicating safety status, risks and progress to senior management.
- Process Improvement: Contributing to the continuous improvement of our functional safety processes and methodologies.
- Development of Safety Package – Supporting the development of Safety Manual, Development Interface Agreement and Safety Analyses.
- Performing Safety Analysis: Supporting functional safety analysis of hardware including DFMEA, FMEA, FMEDA and DFA
- Impact Analysis: Conducting safety impact analyses for errata affecting the product (e.g., as part of the Bug Review Committee – BRC).
- Requirements Traceability: Supporting FuSa architects, product architects, designers, verification team regarding requirements traceability throughout the development process.
- Audits & Assessments: Supporting and participating in internal and external FuSa audits and assessments.
- Reviews & Approvals: Performing necessary reviews of functional safety workproducts
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working closely with engineering teams (Program management, Architecture, Cybersecurity, Design, DV, Software, System Test, Horizontals, Ptech) to ensure safety requirements are correctly captured, understood, implemented and verified.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in hardware/software engineering within semiconductor industry
- Deep understanding of ISO 26262 or IEC 61508 frameworks; formal Safety Certification is highly desirable.
- Extensive experience managing functional safety through the entire product lifecycle, including development, rigorous testing, auditing, and QA for embedded systems.
- Experience in functional safety analysis of hardware including DFMEA, FMEA, FMEDA and DFA
- Experience in working with certification bodies to as part of product Functional Safety assessment
- Experience with IP development Life Cycle e.g. HW IP design and verification processes, ASIC design methodologies, development tools and methods, program management practices
- Skilled in utilizing industry-standard tools for requirements traceability, version control, and project management (e.g., Jama, Jira, GitHub).
- A proactive problem-solver with a meticulous eye for detail and the ability to translate complex technical data into clear, actionable documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to communicate complex ideas succinctly and persuasively to peers, management.
- Able to work with a high level of independence and as part of a team
Additional Skills/Preferences
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management standard
- Knowledge of automotive cybersecurity standard ISO/SAE 21434
