SmartDV Shines in 2020!

After an incredible year for SemiWiki I spent much of January breaking down 2020 with our sponsoring companies. Some had a down year, some had a flat year, but quite a few had remarkable years. One standout company is SmartDV which recorded a 51% revenue increase, so the important question is why?

Reasons:

SmartDV closed multi-year agreements and added 26 new customers in North America, Japan, Europe and Asia, which grew 126%.

SmartDV saw an increased licensing demand of close to 70% for Verification IP and a 300% increase in demand for Design IP solutions. So much of this can be attributed to its expanding Design and Verification IP portfolio. Engineering groups purchasing SmartDV’s IP range from well-funded startups and mid-size chip makers to well-known diversified companies.

Will that growth continue in 2021?
The acquisition of a portfolio of silicon-realized controller Design IP for MIPI and USB interfaces last year will help fuel growth this year. In fact, 2021 revenue to date has already reached 22% of 2020’s full year revenue. 2021’s strong growth so far comes from both design and verification IP in the 5G, consumer and HPC markets, though design IP is considerably stronger.

“Our 2021 revenue projections are strong in all regions and show increasing interest in our products, especially Design IP,” says Deepak Kumar Tala, SmartDV’s managing director. “As we grow our business and expand our offerings, our customer commitment and service will not waiver nor will our ability to rapidly customize Design and Verification IP for specific applications and customer requirements.”
