Huawei reported to be building a fab

It seems to be unclear and also not verified, however there is a saying that where is smoke, there is fire. I am wondering whether all US sanctions on Huawei will trigger its demise or act as a catalyst for the acceleration of independence of Chinese semiconductor / electronics from external technology suppliers.

Not a great news source. Who is buying SMIC's 14nm chips? I thought for sure it was Huawei? Meanwhile, back in the smartphone business, all other Chinese handset makers are using MediaTek chips made by TSMC.

It seems to be just a PR opportunity to introduce Shanghai Micro Electronics Equipment, who may be called upon to fill ASML's role: http://www.smee.com.cn/eis.pub?service=homepageService&method=indexinfo&onclicknodeno=1_4_1_1 But at this point, they are still quite far behind, even for 14nm.
