Staff DevOps & Backend Engineer
Website Sifive
Role Overview:
We are seeking a Senior DevOps & Backend Engineer to join our team. Your primary responsibility will be owning the AWS EKS infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines to ensure features are highly available, scalable, and deployed via automation. You will also be building backend services using Python and Django.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Platform & DevOps
- This is the primary area of focus, centered on infrastructure reliability and automated delivery.
- Infrastructure as Code & Orchestration: Design, manage, and scale high-availability Kubernetes (EKS) clusters on AWS. Utilize Terraform for declarative provisioning and management of all cloud infrastructure resources.
- CI/CD Leadership: Architect, implement, and maintain robust deployment pipelines, leveraging GitHub Actions (CI/CD), Concourse, and Jenkins, with a clear mandate to move toward a “continuous deployment” maturity model.
- Container Strategy: Own the complete Docker lifecycle—from ensuring local development environment consistency to securing and optimizing production images.
- Helm Governance: Create and maintain standardized Helm charts to package and deploy applications consistently across all environments.
2. Reliability & Performance
- Observability: Implement comprehensive logging, tracing, and monitoring solutions within both the application and the Kubernetes cluster for proactive incident response.
- Automation: Utilize Python to build custom DevOps tooling and scripts, significantly reducing manual intervention and toil in the release cycle.
3. Backend Development
- This is the secondary area of focus, leveraging your technical expertise in application development.
- Django Development: Design and implement scalable, secure APIs and backend logic using Python, Django, MCP, and RAG framework.
- Data Modeling: Architect database schemas and optimize PostgreSQL/RDS performance for high-throughput services.
- System Integration: Integrate backend services with AWS native tools (e.g., SQS, S3, Lambda) to build highly scalable, decoupled architectures.
Technical Requirements:
- The required skills are prioritized for a DevOps-first profile.
- Infrastructure as Code (IAC): Expert-level proficiency with Terraform for managing cloud and Kubernetes resources.
- CI/CD Tools: Deep hands-on experience with GitHub Actions (CI/CD), Concourse, and Jenkins.
- Orchestration: Kubernetes (Proven experience with Pods, Services, Ingress, and ConfigMaps)
- Packaging: Docker & Helm (Expert at writing secure Dockerfiles and templating with Helm)
- Language: Python (Expert-level proficiency)
- Web Framework: Django (Senior-level experience with ORM and REST Framework)
- AI Framework: MCP, RAG, OAuth 2.0
- Cloud Provider: AWS (Expert knowledge of EKS, IAM, VPC, RDS, EC2, S3)
- Experience: 10+ years in professional software development with at least 3 years in a dedicated DevOps/SRE capacity.
- Education: A Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering
- The Ideal Candidate Profile
- The “Full-Cycle” Mindset: You believe that a developer’s job isn’t finished until the code is running successfully in production and being monitored.
- Polyglot Skills: You can switch between troubleshooting a Jenkins Groovy script, fixing an infrastructure bug in Terraform, and resolving a Django middleware issue without breaking a sweat.
- Security-Conscious: You understand how to manage Kubernetes secrets and IAM roles to maintain a secure application and infrastructure posture.
