Summary / Role Purpose
The Senior R&D Engineer is responsible for the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the Senior R&D Engineer will use advanced technical and problem-solving skills to help the team tackle complex issues, satisfy customer requirements, and accomplish development objectives.
The focus of this role is to provide architectural guidance to our dynamic Cloud Service Provider (CSP) Marketplace team as we shape the future of cloud computing accessibility. Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Participates in planning, architecture, and research
- Performs complex development activities that may require extensive analysis in areas including user experience, software design and solver research
- Employs best practices and helps to maintain them through technical reviews and mentoring
- Performs complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products.
- Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions
- Researches and understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues.
- May work with strategic customers or proxies to assess needs and develop solutions
- Works independently with minimal supervision and may take on some planning and mentoring responsibilities
- May be responsible for managing interns or co-ops but typically does not have direct reports
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
- BS in Computer Science, or related field with 5 years’ experience; or a MS in Computer Science with 3 years’ experience
- Proficiency in cloud services, including compute, storage, database, and networking offerings. Familiarity with specific services like Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Functions, AWS EC2, and AWS Lambda is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to design scalable, secure, and efficient cloud-native architectures. Knowledge of best practices for cloud security, cost optimization, and performance enhancements.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Strong understanding of customer requirements and tools used in this domain.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a geographically distributed team.
- Proficiency in Cloud Service Provider (like AWS, Azure) SDKs and languages commonly used in simulation software such as C++, Python, and Java.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (using tools like Terraform, Ansible), and version control systems (like Git).
- Understanding of designing and managing applications distributed across multiple servers and regions to ensure high availability and fault tolerance.
- Knowledge of designing microservices architectures and containerization using Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
- Skills in optimizing software and infrastructure for maximum efficiency and minimum latency, crucial for simulation applications
