U.S. ramps up chip production efforts with taxpayers footing part of the bill - Is it worth it?

Based on what? The TSMC Symposium was last week so maybe your information is outdated. There is a lot of semiconductor experience in these forums. You might do better to ask questions than make assumptions.

U.S. ramps up chip production efforts with taxpayers footing part of the bill - Is it worth it?

That is a ridiculous video and your conclusion is wrong. Ridiculous.

U.S. ramps up chip production efforts with taxpayers footing part of the bill - Is it worth it?

Chip prices will not be higher. Manufacturing costs might me higher but wafer prices will be the same as Taiwan fabs. You also have to factor in the CHIPs Act monies for AZ. TSMC is NOT losing money on the AZ fabs. TSMC AZ fab begins production this year. Your view of TSMC seems jaded, why is...

TSMC will not be charging different amounts for AZ fabs or any other fabs outside of the US. Sorry for the confusion.

Video: Intel Adds ASML’s First High NA EUV Tool to Oregon Factory

ASML’s High Numerical Aperture (High NA) Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography scanner sits in Intel Oregon’s D1X test manufacturing factory, where it is going through its final calibration. It is as big as a double-decker bus and weighs as much as a blue whale. It will shoot lasers at light...

Nvidia employees say CEO Jensen Huang is 'not easy to work for.' He says that's how it should be.

Having done start-ups in Silicon Valley for most of my career I agree completely. I spend a lot of time with CEOs now and they make or break a company, absolutely.

Semiconductor Industry Update Webinar - Registration Now Open

There’s now just one week before our May semiconductor industry update webinar. Will this year’s 16 percent growth forecast hold strong? How much longer can IC ASPs show double-digit growth? What will be the repercussion of the poor first quarter sales? When will IC unit growth resume? What will...

Nvidia employees say CEO Jensen Huang is 'not easy to work for.' He says that's how it should be.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has no qualms about being a demanding leader. Huang told "60 Minutes" that accomplishing "extraordinary things" required hard work. The CEO is known for juggling 50 direct reports while running the $2 trillion company. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has a reputation for being a...

Apple quietly builds AI dream team, but final product remains mystery: report

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has faced criticism of being late to the party in revealing its latest artificial intelligence innovations, but the iPhone maker has stealthily built a dream team of AI experts, according to an analysis by the Financial Times. Apple has built this team, in part, by...

TSMC says 'A16' chipmaking tech to arrive in 2026, setting up showdown with Intel

The original ASML EUV systems were delayed by YEARS. I remember going to SPIE and we laughed when ASML did roadmaps. Hopefully they have figured out HNA-EUV but I'm betting they cringe when Pat Gelsinger speaks about it. :ROFLMAO: Since Intel does not have to do full chips or high volumes...

TSMC says 'A16' chipmaking tech to arrive in 2026, setting up showdown with Intel

I think Intel is being an IDM and TSMC is being a foundry. Intel can do chiplets but TSMC must do full chips right out of the gate (Apple, MediaTek, qcom, etc...). I like the competition and have no problem explaining the differences to people. I get the most interesting calls from Wall Street.

TSMC says 'A16' chipmaking tech to arrive in 2026, setting up showdown with Intel

Remember, Intel design will have access to 14A much sooner than Intel Foundry customers. I'm still trying to figure out how many NA systems will be required for Intel to be in HVM with 14A. It will be even more challenging for TSMC since they will need many more HNA EUV systems for HVM. Optional.

    TSMC's New N4C

Okay, iPhone 6 is a bad example. It was my favorite phone though. The point is that Apple can use TSMC AZ fabs for low volume N-2 or N-3 phones. It is a "made in the USA" slight of hand.

    TSMC's New N4C

You have to consider timing as well. Apple is on N3 in 2023 and 2024 and 1H 2025 so 2 years of big volumes per node. Apple is now designing to N2 which they will probably be on in 2H 2025 and 2026 and 1H 2027. I'm sure Apple is still selling N16 products in some parts of the world but not big...

Biden Makes $11 Billion Push to Beat China at Chip Research

(Bloomberg) -- The Biden administration’s efforts to revitalize the chip industry have mostly focused on doling out multibillion-dollar grants for domestic factories. But there’s a less-discussed side to the push: turning cutting-edge semiconductor research into a more enticing field for...
