Summary of Role:

GLOBALFOUNDRIES seeks to hire a high performing individual to drive the global materials engineering needs for bulk chemicals used in Semiconductor manufacturing processes. The global role requires the person to work closely with the procurement, Facilities and Fab stakeholders associated with managing quality and supply continuity of Bulk Chemicals and Pre-cursors (process chemicals). The objective is to align and execute on the associate materials/supplier assessment, specification harmonization resulting in an improved cost of ownership. Preferred location for the job is in Fab 8 Malta NY but considerations will be given to other sites at Burlington VT

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage Bulk chemicals & precursors materials assessment, specifications enhancements and operational excellence driving optimal cost of ownership
  • Work closely with the global bulk chemicals commodity stakeholders and align on strategy and requirements, meeting the material engineering charter
  • Partners closely with Quality and Procurement’s Global Sourcing Leads on planning and direction of the above team including Fabs Module/facilities directors
  • Provides technical recommendation & justification on new and replacement materials (if any)
  • Lead Specification/definition for new materials, specs review on existing materials and global specs alignment I convergence (where possible)
  • Provides technical expertise and help in solving issues related with bulk chemicals and precursors and lead task force (if required) on cross-site material issues
  • Establish technical and competitive benchmarking through conferences and supplier communications
  • Host regular TRM’s with suppliers to align technology roadmaps and ensure appropriate level of progress on established programs
  • Participate in developing engagements with new emerging suppliers to optimize quality, cost and supply assurance
  • Familiarity with Bulk chemicals materials requirements and delivery systems
  • Basic knowledge of bulk chemicals manufacturing, purification and trans-filling processes
  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs
  • Familiarity with Risk assessments (FMEAs) and quality fundamentals (8D structured problem solving) and global quality standards specifically with techniques prescribed by IATF-16949
  • Experience with trace analytical chemistry techniques employed for quality control of semiconductor chemicals, including ICP/MS, liquid particle counters and sizers
  • Strong analytical and project management skills
  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs

Required Qualifications:        

  • Bachelor’s Degree from and an Accredited College and or University in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or Related Discipline with Six (6) or More Years of Relevant Experience (Ex: Process Engineer, or a closely related technical role in wet cleans or semiconductor manufacturing) OR
  • Master’s Degree from and an Accredited College and or University in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics or Related Discipline with Five (5) or More Years of Relevant Experience (Ex: Process Engineer, or a closely related technical role in wet cleans or semiconductor manufacturing)
  • Language Fluency – English (Written & Verbal)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Engineering or Science (e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering ) with Strong background in semiconductor processes and integration and familiarity with material & supplier qualification procedures
  • Experience with semiconductor in-line wafer metrology, chemical distribution system in-line metrology, and both on-line and off-line on-wafer FA (failure analysis) technique
  • Knowledge of Semiconductor Fab data management systems (to pull data) and associated off-line data analytics packages including SAS, and SQL
  • Requires experience with global quality standards, like FMEA
  • Assessing and auditing semiconductor supplier QMS (quality management systems) and capability
  • Basic knowledge of respective module’s process across the various technology nodes
  • Ability to interact with the FABs TD/ cleans/PI/ YE teams, module teams & management, support groups (Procurement, SQE, Planning, CE, FE etc), customers and suppliers
  • Ability to interact with all levels of internal employees from senior directors down to technicians
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and are able to react to shifting priorities to meet the needs of tile business and customers
  • Ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional and multicultural teams
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English are required
