Intel IOT Card

Intel is trying to set the standard with a pluggable IOT card that handles the IOT controls and interface for devices. This is just the first shot in many companies trying to set the standard early. This is just one of the first shots in the competition to stake our various territories in the land of IOT. The gold rush is on and it will be fast and furious. All this is good for the innovation is just starting and the competition will be fierce. Because of the stakes involved in what will be the larges new market for semis/mems/sensors expect a tidal wave of very fast moving innovation in this area. The amount of resources of all types that can be applied to new areas has been increasing at a geometric rate and this is the latest in virgin territory with huge pay outs. Expect many others to follow quickly with similar products for the first that can set the standard in the market will have the first mover advantages with the rest following. Whether this card sets a new standard, only time will tell. This will be the next area to demonstrate the "Great Acceleration" where the speed of every new innovation is faster than the last.

With very little technical specs provided I cannot figure out if the Intel Compute Card is aimed at battery-powered usage or not. It sounds like the Intel partners will actually sell devices with the Intel Compute Card embedded, instead of Intel making any IoT devices.
