24M Batteries, The Battery Race Is On

Just like all races including ones like the space race, when they get up to speed with more competition, the technologies and their impact get better fast. 24M, Tesla and many others are now racing to lower costs and increase performance at an unprecedented rate. 24M's technology promises up to a 25% increase in capacity and to be cheaper to manufacture. This battery race will only get faster as better batteries create ever larger markets and more of them. It looks like we may even see electric planes in the future. Basically we are coming out with new generations built on existing technologies and materials and we are still waiting for a radical change. In the meantime we have seen the cost of batteries drop at an accelerating rate and when they get widespread enough, recycling of close to a 100% should kick in lowering prices even more. We can expect manufacturing cost to continue to drop and if we see a radical new technology take hold, our whole world will change. If we get enough battery technology combined with wind, solar and increased efficiency of everything we could see almost all housing go off the electric grid with just a natural gas fuel cell for backup. This race will challenge the fundamentals of semiconductor technology and manufacturing in ways we haven't even imagined and create a whole new wave of business models at every stage of storage, production, distribution and devices. This presents a number of opportunities limited only by the imagination and subscription models for all stages are but one area for exploration. The number of actual chips, sensors and software to enable all this to happen also present a number of very large and diverse world wide opportunities.

That link is 2 years old. Very little news since 2016, just a couple of financing rounds. They exist, quietly.
