Progress by many companies in the area of optical computing is coming along fast and accelerating at an increasing rate. Most semi companies are at work or will soon be at work on optical computing. The first optical computer is supposed to be released this year and will be for specialized computational purposes only. It looks like in the near future all major semi companies will be producing a totally new kind of computing chip. Semi technology is more and more about nanotechnology and this is just the first step in introducing a whole new classes and types of technology. This is the new frontier in the "Great Acceleration" that is taking place in everything thanks to the spread of all technologies into every corner of our lives and environment. Nothing will not be touched by this massive acceleration that every new technology that increases the rate of acceleration of discovery and implementation of new technologies. This will bring new wonders as well and new and very dangerous dangers to our societies. Technology will not be just about technology, but the wisdom to implement and handle it. I predict this area will become a profession to itself as a whole new profession.
