TCO is integral to users’ criteria when determining where to run their engineering modeling and simulation workflows and selecting vendors to provide their HPC resources. Research indicates that the initial purchase price of on-premises infrastructure accounts for only half of the expenses incurred over the system’s useful life, so it’s critical to understand all elements contributing to TCO for both on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure.
