    TSMC statement on next-generation EUV

Had Intel 10/7 come out when TSMC N7 and Samsung 7nm (non EUV), Intel would have done very well. But Intel had organizational issues and a serious lack of leadership. If you want to blame someone blame the Intel board for hiring BK as CEO. I think Intel's early HNA EUV R&D is great for the...

TSMC Jumps Into Silicon Photonics, Lays Out Roadmap For 12.8 Tbps COUPE On-Package Interconnect ?

Had Anton actually attended or had any first hand knowledge he would know that TSMC has been in photonics for a while. They even said so in the presentations. Here is a report from last year: Silicon Photonics Reshapes the Future; TSMC, ASE Ready to Seize Market Share In the realm of photonic...

TSMC Jumps Into Silicon Photonics, Lays Out Roadmap For 12.8 Tbps COUPE On-Package Interconnect ?

Optical connectivity – and especially silicon photonics – is expected to become a crucial technology to enable connectivity for next-generation datacenters, particularly those designed HPC applications. With ever-increasing bandwidth requirements needed to keep up with (and keep scaling out)...

    TSMC's New N4C

I thought we would talk about it in the forum this year. TSMC only allowed us a handful of slides which I posted. Honestly, there were no surprises. Just really good execution on the roadmap they presented last year. The only surprise for me was that CC Wei did not speak. He has multiple COO's...

    TSMC statement on next-generation EUV

Apple is intimately partnered with TSMC so they are steering the mobile processes. Apple is part of TSMC's risk aversion program so they get what they get. Apple does get a new node version every year, one that no one else can use, that has not changed. Apple will get a new N3 version this...

Legacy Chip Overcapacity in China: Myth and Reality

Photo: REBECCA BAILEY/AFP/Getty Images Washington and Brussels are in the midst of a policy funk over the possibility that China’s industrial policies could do to the market for legacy chips—or what some in the industry prefer to refer to as “mature-node semiconductors”—something similar to...

    TSMC statement on next-generation EUV

I was there for this Q&A, it was pretty lame. Privately however I was told HNA-EUV would not be production ready in time for A16 and TSMC really wanted to get BSPD out for the big AI companies. I also asked if TSMC is getting the second HNA-EUV machine that ASML is shipping and I got a no...

U.S. ramps up chip production efforts with taxpayers footing part of the bill - Is it worth it?

If you look at the Federal budget/deficit, in comparison I think the CHIPs Act is money well spent. Hopefully there will be more to come. By the way, I was working in Silicon Valley when we had fabs here. They were dirty and the EPA tossed them overseas so it wasn't all about cost. I was also...

U.S. ramps up chip production efforts with taxpayers footing part of the bill - Is it worth it?

Based on what? The TSMC Symposium was last week so maybe your information is outdated. There is a lot of semiconductor experience in these forums. You might do better to ask questions than make assumptions.

U.S. ramps up chip production efforts with taxpayers footing part of the bill - Is it worth it?

That is a ridiculous video and your conclusion is wrong. Ridiculous.

U.S. ramps up chip production efforts with taxpayers footing part of the bill - Is it worth it?

Chip prices will not be higher. Manufacturing costs might me higher but wafer prices will be the same as Taiwan fabs. You also have to factor in the CHIPs Act monies for AZ. TSMC is NOT losing money on the AZ fabs. TSMC AZ fab begins production this year. Your view of TSMC seems jaded, why is...

    TSMC's New N4C

TSMC will not be charging different amounts for AZ fabs or any other fabs outside of the US. Sorry for the confusion.

Video: Intel Adds ASML’s First High NA EUV Tool to Oregon Factory

ASML’s High Numerical Aperture (High NA) Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography scanner sits in Intel Oregon’s D1X test manufacturing factory, where it is going through its final calibration. It is as big as a double-decker bus and weighs as much as a blue whale. It will shoot lasers at light...

Nvidia employees say CEO Jensen Huang is 'not easy to work for.' He says that's how it should be.

Having done start-ups in Silicon Valley for most of my career I agree completely. I spend a lot of time with CEOs now and they make or break a company, absolutely.

Semiconductor Industry Update Webinar - Registration Now Open

There’s now just one week before our May semiconductor industry update webinar. Will this year’s 16 percent growth forecast hold strong? How much longer can IC ASPs show double-digit growth? What will be the repercussion of the poor first quarter sales? When will IC unit growth resume? What will...

Nvidia employees say CEO Jensen Huang is 'not easy to work for.' He says that's how it should be.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has no qualms about being a demanding leader. Huang told "60 Minutes" that accomplishing "extraordinary things" required hard work. The CEO is known for juggling 50 direct reports while running the $2 trillion company. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has a reputation for being a...

TSMC says 'A16' chipmaking tech to arrive in 2026, setting up showdown with Intel

The original ASML EUV systems were delayed by YEARS. I remember going to SPIE and we laughed when ASML did roadmaps. Hopefully they have figured out HNA-EUV but I'm betting they cringe when Pat Gelsinger speaks about it. :ROFLMAO: Since Intel does not have to do full chips or high volumes...

TSMC says 'A16' chipmaking tech to arrive in 2026, setting up showdown with Intel

I think Intel is being an IDM and TSMC is being a foundry. Intel can do chiplets but TSMC must do full chips right out of the gate (Apple, MediaTek, qcom, etc...). I like the competition and have no problem explaining the differences to people. I get the most interesting calls from Wall Street.
