Agentrys recently launched a new category of design technology, Agentic Design Automation (ADA). The approach promises to revolutionize AI deployment for chip design with technology that facilitates the building of targeted agentic design flows that get better with every run. For now, I want to focus on a recent funding announcement issued by Agentrys. There’s nothing like a successful fundraising event to validate a company’s vision. Let’s follow the money as Agentrys raises $24.5 million to build agentic design automation.

The Announcement

The top-level news is that Agentrys announced a $24.5 million fundraise, comprised of an over-subscribed $19.1 millionseed round led by Etna Labs and $5.4 million of pre-seed funding led by MediaTek, the company’s first strategic backer. Etna Labs is a research-driven investment firm that has backed more than 20 AI companies with a particular focus on foundation models and the labs applying them to science, robotics, and other frontier domains. Other companies in the Etna Labs portfolio include Anthropic, Open AI, SpaceX, and Ayar Labs.

It was also announced that the funding will go toward recruiting, agent-native tooling, and expanding customer engagements across verification and physical design.

The release explained that Agentrys is defining a new category—Agentic Design Automation—that evolves chip design automation from traditional EDA tools focused on individual tasks to intelligent systems that automate, learn from, and continuously improve entire engineering workflows.

It was stated that the company’s long-term vision is to advance self-improving AI for chip design, enabling engineering systems to learn from experience, evolve their capabilities, and tackle increasingly complex design challenges. In leveraging ADA, Agentrys targets the workflows that determine whether chips in the $800+ billion and rapidly growing semiconductor industry ship on time and meet their functional and performance targets.

The release went on to describe the two ways Agentrys distinguishes itself from other agentic EDA solutions. First, Agentrys offers an open platform that customers build on, rather than a fixed set of vendor-controlled agents. This enables customers to build and own an agentic engineering workforce tailored to their workflow, spanning commercial EDA tools, internal tools, and infrastructure. Second, the design intelligence layer delivered by Agentrys continuously learns from customer data, usage, and evaluation signals, while agent-native tools and custom models extend what general-purpose AI agents can accomplish in chip design.
