MWE 2026 (2026 Microwave Workshops and Exhibition) will be held at Pacifico Yokohama for three days, from Wednesday, November 25th to Friday, November 27th. MWE is one of the largest domestic events related to academic, industrial, and educational activities in microwave technology, and aims to continuously contribute to the development of microwave-related technology and industry. In addition to workshops, it also includes a microwave exhibition. Thanks to the support of many visitors, exhibiting companies, and speakers, this year marks the 30th anniversary of MWE, which was first held at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro in 1991. We look forward to seeing you at Pacifico Yokohama.

MWE, in conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC), the largest international microwave conference in the Asia-Pacific region (held every four years in Japan, alongside the International Microwave Symposium (IMS) in the United States and European Microwave Week (EuMW) in Europe), plays a role in globally deploying Japan’s microwave technology. It serves as a platform for interaction among microwave engineers, researchers, and industry representatives from both Japan and abroad. Furthermore, it contributes to the development of academia, industry, and education in Japan through the creation of new technologies based on microwave technology, the training of researchers and engineers, and the return of these results to society and industry.

At MWE 2026, we adopted “A New Era of Microwave Business with Industry, Government, and Academia Working as One” as our core concept. Against the backdrop of a declining workforce, a relative decline in industrial competitiveness, and economic security issues, addressing the various challenges surrounding Japan is an urgent matter. The importance of working together as a unified force of industry, government, and academia to solve these problems, without being bound by conventional customs or organizational frameworks, has long been emphasized, and we are confident that MWE, which has always championed industry, government, and academia collaboration, will play a leading role in this. Under this concept, we hope that all those involved with MWE, including visitors and exhibiting companies, will work together to envision a future where industry, government, and academia join hands to solve the challenges of future society with microwave technology.

Based on the keynote concept, the workshop will feature sessions covering a wide range of topics of interest, from fundamental technologies related to microwave, millimeter-wave, and terahertz technologies to applications in wireless power transmission, space and quantum technologies, 6G, and IOWN-related technologies. The keynote address will begin with a presentation on the latest trends in radio wave policy by Mr. Hiroyuki Ogawa, Director of the Radio Wave Policy Division, Radio Wave Department, Telecommunications Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. This will be followed by a presentation on the technological development of quantum computers, which are entering the phase of full-scale utilization, by Mr. Kazuya Masu, Director of the Global Research Center for Quantum and AI Fusion Technology Business Development, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). The special lecture will be given by Mr. Hideaki Watanabe, Chairman of the Japan Defense Technology Association and former Director-General of the Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency, on the current state and future prospects of Japan’s defense equipment technology and industry.

At the Microwave Exhibition, you can see the latest product and technology trends from exhibiting companies, and we will also be holding seminars with exhibitors to provide a platform for detailed explanations of their products. In addition, the university exhibition corner will showcase cutting-edge research results from universities and technical colleges, and will provide a space for interaction that can serve as a starting point for exchanging ideas and collaborating with companies. Furthermore, we are planning a Techthon, a competition where students will compete in analyzing and explaining the value of microwave technology, as an opportunity to learn about the role and value of microwave technology. At the MW Cafe, we are planning to present research results from younger generations in a way that is unprecedented. In the introductory course, we are preparing content that better meets the needs of those who have attended in the past, taking into account their feedback. We hope you will look forward to it.

We are deeply grateful for the support and patronage of so many people, which has made it possible for MWE 2026 to be held again this year. We hope that MWE 2026 will contribute to the further development of the microwave-related field and serve as a driving force for industry-government-academia collaboration, and we look forward to your participation.
