I love getting a good deal, and free is always compelling, so how about attending DAC in Austin for free this year? Sound too good to be true? Thanks to the generosity of three EDA companies – ATop Tech, ClioSoft and OneSpin, now you can can attend parts of DAC for free by registering here. This is now the 8th year that the I LOVE DAC… Read More

Five Areas at #53DAC That Require Your Contribution
The 53rd DAC (Design Automation Conference) is some 8 months away, however to make this conference and exhibit another success requires planning, people and awareness. That’s where you come in, because you can contribute your expertise in five different areas:

TSMC 2015 Technology Symposium
This year’s North American TSMC Technology Symposium is fast approaching. There are three, starting in Silicon Valley.
- San Jose on Tuesday April 7th at the San Jose Convention Center

Novati Covers the Periodic Table
Novati is a semiconductor company that you probably haven’t heard of. It has its roots in Sematech back when Sematech was mainly in Austin rather than New York where it is today. The Sematech fab first became an independent company and then acquired by SVTC and operated under that name for 4 years. Finally, last the investors… Read More
SoC Constraints, Design & Verification at DAC
I hadn’t followed EDA start-up company Ausdiamuch before, so at DAC I met with Sam Appleton, CEO to find out what they are all about.

Design Test and Regression Management of SoCs
Eric Peersfounded Missing Link tools in 2008 and his company was acquiredby Methodics in 2012, so I met with him at DAC to understand how their EDA tools for Design, Test and Regression Management are used in an SoC design.

The registration is slightly lower than last year when DAC was in San Francisco (as it will be again … Read More
AMS IC Simulation Update from Synopsys at DAC
Last year at DAC we didn’t really know the circuit simulation roadmap for Synopsys because of all the EDA company acquisitions, however this year it’s clear to me that:
- HSPICE continues on, although it’s a lower performance circuit simulator than FineSim
- FineSim from Magma is well-loved, and faster than HSPICE
Cooley’s Cheesy Must See List for DAC is Out
One of the other increasingly successful channels (besides Semiwiki of course) for EDA, IP and semiconductor companies to reach potential customers is John Cooley’s DeepChip. Every year he puts a lot of effort into trying to find out who is exhibiting what at DAC and which stuff seems like it is new and maybe important, and… Read More
Barbecue at DAC
I already wrote about Franklin Barbecue, by some rankings the best in the whole country. If you want to go there you must be there early. They start serving at 11am and run out of food around 1pm. Closed on Monday.
But there are other barbecue and similar places near the convention center. Since I’m not an Austin native (we’ll… Read More
