Dan is joined by Dr. Walden Rhines. Wally is a lot of things, CEO of Cornami, board member, advisor to many and friend to all. Today he is the Executive Sponsor of the SEMI Electronic Design Market Data Report.

Wally reviews the latest report with Dan. Overall growth was strong at 18.2% vs. Q2 2023. Employment for the sector was also strong with a 6.8% increase, up 2.5% from the prior quarter. All product categories were at or near double digit growth and all regions saw double digit growth. Wally explains that there have now been 22 consecutive quarters of positive growth for total EDA revenue.

Wally highlights two regions that had the largest growth. Some other regions showed slower growth as well. Dan and Wally explore the possible reasons for these differences in an in-depth and informative discussion. It turns out one region had a 120% growth in IP sales, IP being the growth leader overall worldwide.

The EDA market is currently an $18B business, showing a significantly increased share of total semiconductor industry revenue. Dan and Wally explore some of the reasons for this change as well. The forces that will either slow this growth trend or keep it going are also discussed. The overall impact of AI development is also touched on.
