What You’ll Do as a Functional Safety Engineer at Arteris

Do you want to contribute to the backbone of some of the world’s most popular SoCs?

As a Functional Safety Engineer at Arteris, you will play a key role in the development and compilation of ISO 26262 functional safety work products for our semiconductor IP. Your focus will be on hardware functional safety requirements and safety analyses (FMEA, FMEDA, DFA).

You will work closely with architecture, design, and verification teams to define and implement appropriate hardware safety mechanisms at both architecture and microarchitecture levels, ensuring compliance with Technical Safety Requirements. You will also support fault injection activities, contributing to planning, execution, and results reviews.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead Functional Safety Engineer within the IP team for all safety-related semiconductor design IP products
  • Define and contribute to Hardware Functional Safety Requirements and Technical Safety Requirements
  • Collaborate with architects, designers, and design verification leaders to define and implement functional safety requirements in the design
  • Ensure requirements traceability using tools such as Jama Software, Atlassian Jira, and structured documentation (e.g. Adobe Structured FrameMaker)
  • Create and maintain Safety Analyses including FMEA, FMEDA, and DFA, and prepare associated safety reports
  • Support IP teams in selecting appropriate hardware safety mechanisms at architecture and microarchitecture levels
  • Compile and maintain the IP Safety Case and Safety Manual
  • Perform functional safety impact analyses in response to design change requests
  • Lead revisions of the Design Safety Plan, Technical Safety Concept, and SEooC Assumptions

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Strong digital design and architecture skills, with a structured and process-oriented mindset
  • 5+ years of experience (or equivalent) in SoC and system architecture, design, and verification/validation
  • Solid understanding of micro-architectures
  • 3+ years of experience in Functional Safety for semiconductor applications
  • Deep knowledge of ISO 26262 functional safety standards
  • Basic understanding of ARM architectures and AMBA protocols (APB, AXI, ACE, CHI)
  • Experience with industry-standard EDA tools (logic synthesis, coverage-driven simulation)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with fault injection tools
  • Prior exposure to safety-certified IP or SoC development projects

Education Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

Compensation

Estimated Base Salary: €55,000 to €70,000 annually.
