Technical Sourcing Specialist / Manager

Summary/Objective: The Technical Sourcing Specialist / Manager will focus on supporting the Samtec engineering teams in the development of Advanced Products which could include, but not limited to; glass substrates, PCB substrates, high speed cables, and coatings. Position also is a major stakeholder in the supply chain decisions from concept to production.
Essential Functions/ Responsibilities:
- Partner with Product Management and Engineering leadership in the development and execution of a market leading business and technology strategy.
- Assist with the development the Sourcing roadmap for advanced products.
- Work collectively with other team members to negotiate terms and conditions for long term contracts with suppliers.
- Support the development of New Product Introduction in concert with tasks of the New Product Development group as related to materials.
- Adherence to all approved operating budgets including PPV initiatives.
- Assist in the continuous improvement initiative supporting the business unit’s overall performance to objectives and goals.
- Ensure departmental compliance to all quality / operating policies, procedures and standards.
- Maintain the supplier base to support the strategic growth plan for Samtec.
- Provide assistance and perform periodic audits of the Planner/Buyers in all areas.
- Provide logistic support for external material & equipment shipments and assist in the overall development of off-shore sources of supply as directed.
- Drive regular improvement in Purchase Price Variance (PPV) through RFQs, auctions, and negotiations with suppliers.
- Transform market requirements and engineering designs into realizable products that ramp to volume and meet cost, quality, and delivery targets.
- Support Engineering in new product development to include sourcing suppliers, obtaining samples, and quotes
- BOM & Component Mgt to establish minimum balances, lot sizes, stocking locations, and reorder points.
- Needs to understand usage and manufacturing requirements to identify errors
- Assist with the location and development of suppliers domestically and in Low Cost regions, and engage suppliers in projects to improve quality, lead time, and price/terms. Recognize opportunities for LCR sources.
- Support vendor consolidation process of identifying and developing strategically important suppliers.

Preferred Experience
- 5+ Years Procurement experience
- Experience with ERP systems
- Experience with contract negotiations
- Knowledge of product manufacturing/test and familiarity with DfX (includes manufacturing, test, cost, quality, reliability) tools, process and application (FMEA, DOE, DMAIC).
Preferred Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or other Technical discipline.
Training required
- On the Job Training as appropriate.
