Sr. SMT Engineer

The Sr. SMT Engineer is a self-motivated contributor working with internal and external customers to assist in the design and development of new and existing products, provide processing-related technical customer support and research new and improved methods for processing Samtec interconnects. A reasonable understanding of SMT electronic assembly including screen printing processes, pick & place, reflow thermal profiling, cleaning, electrical / functional testing and SMT troubleshooting is required. The Engineer will have full access to state-of-the-art SMT processing, inspection and rework equipment.
Responsibilities
- Member of a cross-functional team comprised of design engineering, manufacturing, quality, sales and marketing to support new product introduction, as well as existing product improvement, customer quality issues and sales and marketing strategies
- This position will involve hands-on work on a full SMT process line
- Assist with new product design and develop processing recommendations including:
- PCB footprint layout
- Stencil layout
- Shipping packaging requirements
- Pick and place requirements
- Evaluate new product designs through processing trials (reflow soldering, wave soldering, press fit, etc)
- Rework procedure
- Interpret customer data to determine root cause of processing issues
- Set up and run internal soldering trials of customer processing issues
- Assist in equipment maintenance and procurement

Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing with a focus in SMT process engineering formal training and/or work experience (preferred)
- Must be a self-starter with strong organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated problem solving ability and attention to detail
- Strong technical writing ability
- Candidates must have a solid understanding of statistics, process control and reliability standards (IPC, JEDEC, MIL)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent follow-up skills
- Proficiency with MS Office applications
- Experience in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Gerber or other engineering design, modeling or simulation software is desirable
