SUMMARY
The R&D Verification Engineer II joins the Electronics and Semiconductor Business Unit to conduct software testing of ANSYS applications such as OpticStudio.  This role assesses how well the product meets customer needs both in terms of functionality and usability and ensures that product requirements and quality standards are satisfied.  The role works closely with other members of the product creation team and communicates with technical specialists on product issues.

The R&D Verification Engineer is responsible for increasing the stability and robustness of our flagship product OpticStudio and of all add-in modules to OpticStudio through detailed testing of the code architecture, user interface, and core calculations for these software packages. This individual is expected to conduct both programmatic testing – by writing their own test code – and manual testing, with a strong emphasis on the former. They are also expected to contribute to the creation of comprehensive test plans for key new value propositions being added to OpticStudio and its add-in modules. To be successful in the role, the verification engineer should have a strong foundation in software testing and a solid foundation in software programming – ideally C++ and C#.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Specify and write test cases, create, modify and update existing tests, write and maintain test scripts
  • Perform functional, application, regression and performance testing in manual and/or automated test environments and investigate possible causes of problems
  • Create test plans, participate in defect management and testing metrics
  • Apply standard techniques and procedures and comply with the company’s overall development and testing processes
  • Work in a variety of computing environments: Windows, VMs, Cloud
  • Contribute ideas for features or enhancements that would improve the user experience, based on understanding the customers’ design processes
  • Act as an interface with the Customer Success team to help answer questions that require understanding the code bases for OpticStudio and its add-in modules
  • Implement API support for all new features, and finish adding support for any previous features that have not yet been added to the API.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required Education and Degree Type: BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Required Minimum Years of Professional Experience: 2+ years of experience with object-oriented programming
  • 2+ years of experience in software testing
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical knowledge and experience with C++, C#, and WPF
  • Experience in a large-scale commercial software testing and verification environment
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
  • Highly organized with an ability to efficiently handle numerous projects simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail
