Job Description

Intel Labs is an industry-leading research organization, responsible for driving Intel’s technology pipeline, product innovations, and creating new opportunities. The mission of Intel Labs is to deliver breakthrough technologies to fuel Intel’s growth. This includes identifying and exploring compelling new technologies and high risk opportunities ahead of business unit investment and demonstrating first-to-market technologies and innovative new usages for computing technology. Intel Labs engages the leading thinkers in academia and industry in addition to partnering closely with Intel business units.

Intelligent Systems Research Lab (ISR) is a team in Intel Labs that is focused on multi-disciplinary research spanning AI, HCI, ethnography and design to create Human/AI collaborative systems that can amplify human potential and create sustainable and transparent AI solutions . We utilize multi-modal signals (e.g. vision, audio, speech, language , RF) and AI to infer and predict human state and actions and enable physically situated dialog and interactions. We conduct this research in the context of vertical domains including manufacturing, enterprise, education, and assistive computing for people with disabilities.

ISR is looking for an Intern with a background in vision and/or multimodal sensing who can help with the research being conducted in ISR’s focus areas. The successful candidate will be working on the topic of object, action and/or activity recognition while lowering the human annotation, training effort and domain adaptation required for these algorithms. In this position, you will have the opportunity to work on novel research on using real-world multimodal (vision, wireless, audio, language, etc.) data in different domains such as industrial, kitchen, etc. to understand human activities and intents in different environments. The research will enable development of new algorithms/techniques, building proofs-of-concept, publications in internal/external venues, contribute to Intel’s patent portfolio and impact Intel’s AI products.

Behavioral Traits:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

This is an internship position and compensation will be given accordingly.

Qualifications

You must possess the below requirements to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through a combination of your schoolwork and/or classes and/or research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate must be pursuing a Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or any related field.

6+ months experience in below areas:

  • Machine learning, deep learning research and implementation
  • Knowledge of vision-based (image/video) processing techniques for sensing applications
  • Working knowledge of Python

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in computer vision and machine learning techniques for object and activity recognition
  • Knowledge of widely utilized AI frameworks (e.g. Pytorch, Tensorflow, etc.)
  • Knowledge of novel paradigms beyond supervised learning, such as weakly supervised learning, Human in the loop approach, uncertainty and anomaly detection, unsupervised learning, active learning, contrastive learning, transfer learning
  • Signal processing techniques and implementation
  • Experience with at least one project/task that involves model development, verification and deployment involving multimodal sensing
  • Familiarity with data collection and labeling/annotation processes, best practices and tools for dataset
