Role summary

The Lead Application Engineer is responsible for leveraging advanced-level engineering knowledge and relationships to help customers solving complex engineering problems using Ansys DME products and to support regional accounts with significant impact on software revenue.

The role encompasses providing technical support of our customers. engaging in presale activities to support sales campaigns, delivering professional services to support software growth and helping translate customer requirements into exciting new product features.

Lead complex customer engagements through project teams for presales, professional service activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate technical mastery and knowledge of DME products to provide the highest level of technical support to customers and channel partners, ensuring high-quality, timely customer service that results in improved customer satisfaction and productivity.
  • Work with Ansys channel partners to grow the revenue, market presence, smooth integration and collaboration with Ansys, independence, prosperity, and overall satisfaction with respect to working with AGI and selling DME software.
  • Work closely with DME sales leadership to ensure smooth go to market operations throughout Japan across sales, ACE, channel partners, and customers
  • Take ownership of customer problems, proactively engage with selected accounts to provide comprehensive DME solutions. Lead complex customer engagements throughout the sales opportunity lifecycle, interact with key customers to understand their product design needs, key business initiatives and engineering design workflows and articulate Ansys’ value proposition to Director level audiences.
  • Instruct advanced and/or application focused training classes. Lead project teams for professional services which include collaborative work with other field engineers in the same or different disciplines.
  • Gather customer requirements to support improvement of Ansys software and collaborate with the Ansys product development teams to translate customer requirements into new product capabilities and to guide Ansys product roadmap. Lead project teams testing new releases on industrial problems.
  • Participate in internal corporate initiatives to share knowledge and to create best practices, both within and outside the discipline.
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Actively collaborate with other team members as well as other functions including sales, marketing and product management/development within and outside of the region to drive customer success.

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • Required education and degree type: Bachelors, Masters or PhD in Mechanical/Chemical/Aerospace/Electrical Engineering/Computer Science or a related field.
  • Required minimum years of professional experience in an engineering environment: 8 years for Bachelors, 6 years for Masters or 3 years for PhD.
  • Expert level knowledge of DME products and programming interfaces
  • Expert level knowledge of DME programming interfaces and building complex workflows with the broader Ansys portfolio
  • Ability to wear multiple hats to support a wide variety of stakeholders needs throughout the region.
  • Demonstrated use of relevant Ansys software or knowledge of other commercial CAE, CAD, EDA, PLM, MBSE, DME, MDAO software packages.
  • Subject matter expert in one or more relevant disciplines within Ansys’ business and is/will be sought out for advice by other Ansys engineers
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering practices and product development, experience with building solutions using simulation technology and deploying those solutions within customers’ engineering workflows.
  • Track record of delivering exceptional customer outcomes and revenue impact.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Logical problem-solving, strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to facilitate and conduct webinars and presentations to customers and to a wide range of audiences.
  • Fluent in writing and speaking English, with working limited proficiency of Japanese
  • Ability to organize and drive multiple projects which are complex in nature across geographically diverse locations. Possesses a sense of urgency.
  • Projects a professional image and demonstrates business acumen, driven to succeed
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of time.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Required minimum years of professional experience in an engineering environment: 12 years for Bachelors, 10 years for Masters or 7 years for PhD
  • Fluent in writing and speaking English and Japanese
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior business managers and C-level executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand business requirements and translate these into an execution plan that delivers value and meets business goals.
