R&D Engineer II – Additive Manufacturing

SUMMARY
The R&D Engineer II contributes to the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish development objectives. The R&D Engineer II will work closely with researchers from additive development team to perform scientific research activities of thermal simulation for an additive manufacturing process.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs moderately complex development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of software modules and sub-systems for an additive manufacturing process simulation
- Understands and employs best practices
- Performs moderately complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions
- Understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues
- Works under the general supervision of a development manager
- Work with the AM development team to advance the research of AM thermal analyses
- Develop and mature our capabilities to simulate LPBF and DED processes with multiple process parameters
- Drive new algorithm development to push simulation speed and improve code infrastructure
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- BS Mechanical Engineering, Material Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Numerical Methods, Physics or related field with 2 years’ experience or MS
- Commercial Experience with software development using Python and C++
- Experience with Metal Additive Manufacturing Processes (LPBF, DED, Binder jetting sintering etc.) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Hands-on experience with multiscale thermal modeling, parallelization, and code infrastructure design
- Experience delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial software development environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Material Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Numerical Methods, Physics or related field with 1 year experience
- Excellent technical knowledge in Ansys Workbench and Mechanical
- Experience with non-linear simulation using non-linear material properties
- Familiar with analytical approaches of thermal simulation for a LPBF process
- Experience with machine learning and crystal plasticity is a plus
- Passion for crafting robust and efficient code
- Experience delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial software development environment
- Understanding of customer requirements and tools used in this domain
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a geographically distributed team
- Team player, responsible, motivated, and ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team
