Co-Op Engineer – Design Enablement
Join the GlobalFoundries Design Enablement Team in Essex Junction, VT to develop design kits for photonics, power amplifier, antenna switch, and high-performance Silicon Germanium (SIGE) foundry technologies. Clients design products using these technologies for the growing mobile, IOT, and photonics applications spaces.
We’re looking for an intern to join our Device Library Development team. We’ve got key development projects for Quality at the Source, Automation, and Device Development that will use and challenge your skills.
You will get valuable experience in developing the tools for chip design as part of the device library development team. The team is a good mix of deep experience and mid-career engineers. We build the layout and schematic representation of the devices in the technology. This work is typically performed in a language called ‘Skill’, which is a LISP derivative.
Your Device Library development work will expose you to a broad range of chip development disciplines, including device engineers, ground rule developers, and other design aids developers, e.g. DRC, LVS, & PEX. These team members are both local in Essex, Vermont, and around the world, as part of GF’s global enterprise.
Essential Responsibilities:
● Develop process design kit (PDK) device pCells or supporting functions in a team environment.
● Write scripts for automation and validation
● Validate PDK component implementation with automated and manual quality checks
● Develop methods and software tools to improve PDK component efficiency or accuracy
● Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety
Required Qualifications:
Engineer in Electronics/Microelectronics or Software Engineering, preferably on MS/PhD track
Working knowledge of the Solid State Electronics principles of operation
Strong software development skills, proven experience in multiple languages,
Excellent technical problem solving skills.
Good communication skills – both written and verbal.
Good attitude and interpersonal skills, works well in a team environment
English: Fluent
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with circuit design tools, Cadence Virtuoso preferred
Demonstrated design experience (circuit, PCB, or software)
Knowledge of Cadence SKILL programming language is a plus, as well as scripting languages Perl, TCL.
