This article is beyond my scope, but I'm sure the community may find it an interesting glimpse into the future. In maintains the basis of current semis will have to shift from relying on magnetic fields at the atomic level to electric fields to reduce the massive and increasing use of power by current semis. This will require getting away from silicon entirely. I'm sure this is not in the immediate future but farther out. Any thoughts or comments on this technology and its progress would be appreciated.
I enjoyed the paper Arthur. Of course new materials systems will underpin new technologies, as has always been the case. Applications for Multiferroics? Who knows. A couple of years back it was all going to be memristors.
It's very difficult (impossible) to know what materials systems will be used for future memories and logic applications. Broad-based material science research is essential.
