All of my career has been way back of the leading edge, and
now I am working really old stuff like analog piece-parts and
discretes. I have been looking for 4" (100mm) fabs that do
discrete devices but do not have a discretes business, that
new products might be considered a competitive threat to.
I look through what's on Wikipedia and see that their list is
missing some 100mm fabs I'm aware of (more in the analog IC
space) and I expect that the 3" and 4" discretes fabs have
escaped peoples' notice / interest. I find other fabs online that
seem like "ghost ships" - the web pages are there, but links
to back pages are broken and a Google robot answers the
phone.
I'd like to ask the community to offer up any company names
that you know are active and run 4" silicon (affinity for exotic
metallization stacks like Ti/Ni/Au is a definite bonus, but I can
stomach an over-the-road backend flow, MEMS outfits are
more flexible about that since they have no tubes to poison....
Name your faves, or let me know who just kicked the bucket
and shouldn't be bothered with? But recently "retired" fabs often
come back to life with an investor or two and a few of the old
timers, so also interested in any underground buzz that fits this
frame.
