And quick on TSMC's hind quarter Samsung Foundry announced 11nm ready for production in 1H 2018 and 7nm EUV in 2H 2018. Last I heard TSMC 7nm EUV is due out in 2019.

This Samsung update includes 11nm (optimized 14nm) which is one upmanship on the TSMC 12nm process which is currently in production:

The TSMC OIP Forum is on Wednesday so I will have another update after that. I also have a call with Samsung tomorrow night so I nay do an expanded blog on it.

Competition is for the greater good so this really is great news, absolutely!

Yeah it is nice to see them fighting :)

Now the question is, "ready to production" means risk or mass production?

From initial risk production to mass production, it is more or less a year right?

You have to be careful with the wording that the foundries use. "initial production in the second half of 2018" might mean risk production.
 
I'm really interested to find out where GlobalFoundries is at with their 7nm technology. I wonder if the inclusion of IBM will allow them to bring their product to market on time.
 
with 12FFC tape-outs through end of 2017 for mainstream mobile APs, 7nm coming in 2018 for hero mobile APs (and presumably 7FFC in 2019 for HVM of mainstream mobile APs)... is there sufficient demand for TSMC to intro a follow-on to 12FFC for customers that cannot afford 7FFC design costs (and to compete with Samsung 11nm)?
