During a recent fireside chat with Needham, Synopsys CEO Sassine Ghazi and CFO Shelagh Glaser commented on business with Intel. Intel is a top customer for Synopsys and Synopsys does not see that changing despite recent Intel moves. Same with Samsung despite its troubles, no real change with Synopsys - Samsung business.
Intel started moving away from internal EDA tools in 2006 and now uses a full commercial flow. An important point with the up and coming foundry business. Intel has foundry certified EDA flows with the top EDA companies (Synopsys, Cadence, Siemens EDA, and Ansys) in place ready to go, the same tools Intel uses internally. The Intel engagement with Synopsys now includes a full suite of Synopsys IP for internal and external (Foundry) use. Intel Foundry has signed with Arm and many other IP companies as well.
Synopsys also said the Ansys acquisition is on track to close in the first half of 2025. I certainly hope this is the case. This acquisition is one of the best, if not the best acquisition in EDA history, absolutely.
