How long until AI/ML greatly impacts the professions?

What will happen when a few people really how to perform many multipoles of the work they do now using AI/ML? I see this happening as specialized versions of AI/ML could accelerate its ability to displace people as a few master and implement AI/ML to vastly improve not only the quantity of work, but the quality. Also, on the physical side with AI/ML controlling robotics and learning without human intervention the impact could be huge and greatly benefit those that learn and lead in implementing and adapting robotics and AI/ML both. Will doing this become a profession in itself? Any thoughts or comments appreciated especially on timelines for the changes.
