SEMI World Fab Forecast Points to Record Year in Fab Spending

The latest edition of the SEMI World Fab Forecast projects a continued increase in fab equipment spending into 2015, with investments in front-end fab equipment rising 21 percent to US$42 billion. This puts 2015 in line to exceed the all-time record US$40 billion spent in 2011.

Since the last report in May 2014, more than 308 updates on 256 facilities have been made to the proprietary SEMI database. The report details activities on 1,156 facilities worldwide, including more than 300 opto/LED related fabs, and lists major investments for 216 facilities in 2014 and more than 200 projects in 2015.

Regionally, Taiwan is leading spending in 2014 (US$9.7 billion) and will continue to lead into 2015, rising to US$12 billion. Rounding out the top spending regions in 2015 are Korea (US$8 billion), Americas (US$7.9 billion), China (US$5 billion), and Japan (US$4.2 billion). 2015 spending in Europe is expected to double to US$3.8 billion.

The SEMI World Fab Forecast data also details trends in installed capacity. The current report reveals that much of the increased spending seen in 2014 and projected for 2015 is going towards upgrading existing fabs, and added capacity for foundries and LED fabs.

Use the SEMI World Fab Forecast Report to Your Advantage!
SEMI closely monitors the installed capacity of more than 1,100 facilities. The SEMI World Fab Forecast tracks the database tracks construction, equipment spending, capacity ramp, and technology node transition by quarter.

The SEMI World Fab Forecast report features more flexibility to allow you access to improved correlation of fab spending and capacity to wafer size, product type and geometry. Cost related spending, for areas such as construction and equipping, can now be readily correlated to wafer size changes, product type changes or geometries.

The SEMI World Fab Forecast uses a bottom-up approach methodology, providing high-level summaries and graphs; and in-depth analyses of capital expenditures, capacities, technology and products by fab. Additionally, the database provides forecasts for the next 18 months by quarter.
