Per this week Barron's magazine, Cisco employment actually went up when you look at the companies they purchased. This is simply reallocation of resources that actually goes on all time. Far from failure, this shows the SV ability to change and adapt with the times. When was the last time you had the government have a serious layoff to reallocate resources? This is the rigidity all tax payers pay for, keep obsolete departments and divisions open rather than put the resources to more efficient uses. This is the attitude that leads to useless wars abroad and even at home, like the morals war, that with the law enforcement/prison/court complex creating more crime than they solve. This is because no one learned from prohibition. Only an educated population can make intelligent decisions and actions. We need to automate education and make education a lifetime subscription to drastically lower cost and make it more effective. This is where SV can truly help everyone, by merging artificial intelligence with adaptive education delivered and administered and delivered electronically to dramatically lower costs. This would also allow for the sharply increasing diversity and speed of advancement in skill sets. This would also apply to how we take care of ourselves, mentally and physically. Cisco is just being smart.
