With massive debt around the world posing a serious threat, the tech sector is our best hope. We are in the midst of an accelerating increase in the big data/communications/processing power/mems/robotics chain that is fundamentally changing our society and economic structure. Coupled with the proliferations of massive container ships and jumbo jets, the world has fundamentally changed from several separate systems in relative isolation to a massively unified system in the space of just thirty years. This has changed everything and offers more opportunities and dangers than ever before.
Companies have become far more flexible and liquid than governments, plus having far more geographic reach as never before. It's time to toss out many of the old ground rules of law and society, they no longer exists. People and companies can move, combine and morph political, economic and social systems from around the world to suit their needs when governments refuse to adapt. We have seen tax laws distorted as capital moves through many, many jurisdictions with a click of the keyboard, sometimes not even that, the action of an algorithm at the speed of nanoseconds.
SemiWiki I feel is one of the best forums and educational tools to get a handle on this brave new world. Tech can no longer be looked at in a vacuum, but must be looked at in the greater context of the world that it has helped create. The fracking revolutions is just one of many revolutions the tech sector has created that has changed the very fundamentals we used to take for granted. SemiWiki has created a fundamental way of learning and access to learning that I know is just in its infancy. I congratulate the founders on their creation and hope to play a part in its continuing evolution. I know no one considers the possibility of the SemiWiki community becoming true heroes, but I feel they are the best hope for the economic, social and environmental challenges ahead as tech now permeates everything with semiconductors of all types at its heart. Developing and guiding this immense power will contribute more than any politician or soldier and carry as much risk and responsibility for the dangers ahead are now greater than we have ever dreamed of. Never before has man created so many ways of destroying the economics, societies and environment of the planet we currently live on. I hope to see SemiWiki advance and morph with the changing needs and challenges of the world around us.
