Brain Interfaces Large Future Market for Semis

This particular interface is the help a paralyzed man control to restore movement in his limbs, but in the future it could be used as a bypass to directly interface with the physical world we live in. The scary part is if this becomes a two way street and can be used to control a person, the ultimate despots dream. Technology is picking up speed with the "Great Acceleration" and we will see it more and more deal with unintended consequences. Without wisdom, we could be entering a very dangerous time. Knowledge without wisdom can be the ultimate danger to us all. The markets for this technology are limited only by the imagination. To think it won't advance at the speed of other technologies is to be blind to the progress taking hold on all fronts.

This could also be used to control problems the body has by giving us an interface to bodily functions we aren't normally aware of and maybe even give us the power to trigger defense mechanisms our body has to control disease and disabilities. The bionic body for active management and monitoring of the human body opens up a number of possibilities. Many are even looking to a future when me might be able to download knowledge, the ultimate game changer. Also we could look at being able to take further control of our body in numerous ways. This is a whole new frontier to be explored.

Implants link paralyzed man's arm to his brain to restore movement

Just for reference, they have also interfaced artificial retinas to enable blind to see and colloquial implants for the deaf to hear. We are just starting to see a massive tectonic shift in the role semis and semi technology will play in the human body. It's easily possible to see when this technology replaces a significant portion of the pharmaceuticals we use. The traditional drug companies will either take control or do everything in their power to coopt this trend.
