ASML Holding, the world’s top supplier of advanced chipmaking equipment, will build a “reuse and repair” centre in Beijing this year, showing its commitment to the world’s second-largest economy despite pressure from Washington as it finds itself caught up in the US-China tech rivalry.
The Dutch firm, which has been unable to sell its extreme ultraviolet lithography systems to its China-based clients to comply with US export control rules, disclosed the plan for the facility in the Chinese capital in its annual report published on Wednesday.
It is the only major project in the report’s “circular economy” section about parts and tools.
It has been previously reported that the Dutch government could limit ASML’s ability to repair and maintain its semiconductor equipment on the mainland. China is ASML’s largest market, accounting for 36.1 per cent of its total sales in 2024, replacing Taiwan for the first time, according to the annual report.
IT Home reported on March 6 that according to the Securities Times, in response to recent media reports that lithography machine giant ASML will build a new maintenance center in Beijing this year, on the evening of March 6, the relevant person in charge of ASML responded: "We are not going to build a new local maintenance center in Beijing in 2025, but will upgrade and expand the existing one this year."

Some key parts and modules are made in ASML factory in Wilton, Ct. Besides, Cymer (HQ in San Diego) also has high market share in laser (key light sources in scanners)
Not so strange question.
When it comes to fab equipment operation, productivity and sustainability, parts supply is "bigly" critical.
US ban has a lot to do with the country of origin of these parts. And ASML machines have several critical parts that are made and originates in the US, even though the entire machine is final assembled in the Netherlands before export to user countries.
