Another move against wireless carrier lock-in

Now Microsoft may have joined the movement away from lock-in wireless plans. They are getting ready to offer their own SIM card to enable downloading apps on-the-go. (What? you say, Microsoft doesn't have a phone. But remember these days many devices want mobile access to the internet, even laptops). Apple and Google are already moving in this direction. Interesting insight to the world of carriers - perhaps T-Mobile aren't fighting a last desperate action to stay alive but instead on the forefront of a new movement in not requiring 2-year plans.

Here's the Wired article Microsoft Hints At Another Anti-Carrier Shift In Wireless | WIRED

I used T-Mobile for a mobile hot spot for a trip over the summer in Europe. It was a breath of fresh air to be able to start and stop the service when I wanted - no contract. While I'll be staying with Verizon for my main phone service, having the ability to get this service the way I wanted made me think more highly of T-Mobile.

I've also been looking at Karma as a way of having back up wifi. But that is another topic really.....
