On an interesting note, my daughter just bought a car and had to reserve it in advance. No price negotiation, no special orders, you get what they have coming and you like it or lump it. Car companies must love this new business model rather than having lots full of cars where people kick tires and play dealers against each other on price. They may be selling less cars but they will have more profits per car, absolutely.

It's Soviet-era-style supply.

Sigh. I buy used from Craigslist private-party sellers; too much hassle from the dealers.
