The Waste Management Engineer will oversee all waste streams under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulatory framework, ensuring compliance with hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage and disposal requirements. This role involves coordinating with waste management vendors, identifying recycle/reuse opportunities, and advising on compliance with current and future legislation. The Waste Management Engineer will be a key contributor to TSMC Arizona’s environmental sustainability and operational excellence efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams.
  • Evaluate field, operational, and analytical data to determine waste characterizations.
  • Coordinate waste collection, sorting, recycling, and disposal operations to optimize efficiency and ensure compliance.
  • Advise on strategies for waste reduction, waste minimization, and environmentally sustainable practices.
  • Coordinate waste shipments, including transport and disposal, while ensuring accurate documentation and record-keeping.
  • Maintain detailed records of chemical inventories, waste shipments, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies regarding hazardous materials and waste stream management.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science/engineering, chemical engineering, natural resources management, physical science, or related field.

Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of hazardous and non-hazardous waste management in a highly regulated industrial environment or semiconductor industry.
  • Understanding of government regulations related to hazardous materials and waste, including RCRA, EPCRA, CERCLA, and TRI reporting.
  • Familiarity with Department of Transportation (DOT) placard, packaging, and waste transportation regulations (49 CFR).
  • Experience with Arizona waste regulations and working with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with three or more years of experience in waste management.
  • HAZMAT certification or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification.
  • Recent RCRA certification: 40 CFR 262.17(a)(7)
  • Recent DOT certificatino: 49CFR Transportation of Hazardous Materials/IATA/IMDG

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform tasks involving extended walking, bending, and lifting, as required by the role.

Candidates must be willing and able to work on-site at our Phoenix, Arizona facility.
