Position Description:
- The Senior Glass Technologist will be responsible for understanding viscoelasticity-related stress and structural relaxation phenomena in through glass via sintering or other elevated process conditions.
- Expectation of developing models and analytical tools to gain fundamental understanding of underlying principles and propose new processes or applications.
- Candidate must have a strong foundation in solid mechanics and a high level of expertise in numerical modeling.
- This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with globally distributed researchers, engineers in our commercial organizations, and customers.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
- Strong knowledge in area of constitutive material models, viscoelastic material behavior, stress relaxation, and structural relaxation.
- Strong knowledge in fundamentals of mechanics, linear and non-linear material model.
- Experience with equipment and materials testing, mechanical material property characterization.
- Analyze problems and reduce them to mathematical models, carrying out experiments to validate models, deriving numerical and technological solutions and making recommendations.
- Applying viscoelastic fundamental theories to understand the stress relaxation and structural relaxation material behavior during glass forming/reforming processes.
- Utilizing commercial modeling and simulation software for process/product development, design improvement, and manufacturing processes optimization.
- Work with glass scientists and process engineers to help improve understanding in material behavior and test methods for material property characterization.
- Work with development engineer and process engineers to help with addressing practical engineering problems.
- Writing technical reports, invention disclosures, & publications.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Ability to apply fundamental theories in real engineering problem solving.
- Industry or R&D manufacturing experience.
- Knowledgeable about various materials test techniques.

Required Education:
- B.S. or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials, Physics, or related discipline
- 5+ yrs. of work experience in similar field preferred
