About the role

PQShield is looking for an Senior DevOps Engineer to expand our Engineering team.

PQShield has been established since 2018, so you would be directly working with the founders and inventors of this deep tech startup. However the technology is already a couple of years in the making, its feasibility having been established, funding secured, and it has a clear path to market. This is a great opportunity to make career progress and to get a head start in a rapidly expanding segment of the semiconductor industry (Post-Quantum Cryptography and RISC-V).

Our components come together as a RISC-V MCU based Sub-system with advanced (post-quantum) cryptography algorithm support and security features.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer you will be working closely with the wider Engineering teams to design and implement automated, scalable solutions for project build-and-test, and to train and support engineers in their use. The main responsibility is to ensure PQShield builds and delivers code at the highest possible quality to internal teams and customers, for use in cutting-edge quantum-secure cryptography solutions. The role involves strong cross-team collaboration with both software and firmware/hardware IP teams, as well as the infrastructure team. This will be a senior role initially reporting into the Delivery team, with the potential to scale up and lead a small team as the company grows.

What you’ll be doing

  • Championing CI/CD best-practice throughout Engineering, and coaching the wider team in its use
  • Designing, enhancing, and implementing modular, reusable, scalable, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery systems in line with industry best practices
  • Monitoring and ensuring smooth operation of test and production environments, building dynamic dashboards and alerts to communicate information to the wider team
  • Aligning build and test processes with existing HW and SW development processes and best-practice
  • Collaborating with the engineering team to identify opportunities for automation early in the development lifecycle
  • Managing physical test assets and infrastructure such as development boards and FPGAs
  • Supporting the engineering team with configuration management, minimising overall testing runtime while supporting a growing configuration space for our IP products
  • Problem solving through dashboards and logs to identify and resolve issues, providing preventative solutions
  • Working with engineering and infrastructure/operations teams to pre-emptively identify bottlenecks e.g. in compute resource / storage / tool licences
  • Support the deployment, continual upgrade, and configuration of a diverse range of engineering development tools; including internally developed and 3rd party/open source tooling
  • Support engineering/infrastructure team with resource-planning

Required Skills And Qualifications

  • Experience managing or training others in DevOps or general CI/CD approaches
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI / Github & Jenkins
  • Python and shell scripting
  • Experience working in a containerised environment such as Docker / Kubernetes
  • Experience deploying CI/CD across secure and distributed systems, including cloud-based systems and on-prem RHEL systems
  • Experience applying secure development and delivery practices
  • Excellent understanding of Git branching models and configuration management
  • Highly Desirable – Experience of CI for embedded projects – combining (soft) hardware IP and firmware IP
  • Desirable – Experience with build systems for highly configurable projects in C and C++
  • Desirable – Experience with a wider range of build systems
  • Desirable – experience integrating DevOps processes with other communication and management tools e.g. Slack and Jira
  • Desirable – relevant degree or experience in a Computer Science or Engineering field
