Summary / Role Purpose
The R&D Engineer II contributes to the development of materials data products and supporting systems. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish development objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Understands materials and materials simulation and performs moderately complex development activities to develop data products for materials selection, simulation and to support teaching.
- Project work will vary, but typically involves independent research and data manipulation and analysis.
- Understands and employs best practices.
- Performs moderately complex bug verification, database builds and support for assigned products.
- Works under the general supervision of a manager.
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience
- BS, MSc or PhD in material science, an engineering discipline, or a related physical science subject.
- Working experience with solving complex technical engineering/materials problems using recognised methods covering data collection, analysis and technical reporting.
- Working experience with solving engineering problems, via simulation, preferably using Finite Elements in areas such as solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, electromagnetics and biomechanics.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Technical knowledge and experience with scientific data, backed up with some form of experience with data analysis, visualisation, and preferably a knowledge of relational databases.
- Experience of writing code to automate data analysis/manipulation processes (e.g. Python, C#, Excel VBA macros…).
- Good communication skills in written and spoken English and good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team.
