R&D Engineer II

SUMMARY
Seeking an outstanding candidate to join the team responsible for the industry leading computational electromagnetic (CEM) engines in the gold standard ANSYS HFSS simulation software product.  This position focuses on HFSS HPC solver infrastructure that employs MPI and related distributed computing technologies. In addition, the position entails software architecture and implementation of software modules which communicate with solvers and UI product codes. The successful candidate will have a solid background in scientific software development along with excellent object-oriented programming skills.

The R&D Engineer II contributes to the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish development objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs moderately complex development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of software modules and sub-systems
• Understands and employs best practices
• Performs moderately complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions
• Understands the marketing requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues
• Works under the general supervision of a development manager

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• BS in computer science, engineering, or related field with 2 years’ experience or MS
• Working experience with software development that requires design and implementations in C++ and/or other object-oriented languages.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Ph.D. degree in computer science or related field
• Technical knowledge and experience with highly complex software systems, HPC infrastructure, and various IPC methods (sockets, pipes, MPI protocols…)
• Knowledge and experience with API design and development
• Strong C++ programming skills
• Experience with both Windows and Linux development environments
• Experience in a large-scale commercial software development environment
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
