Responsibilities
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will improve products, processes, and components to meet agreed-upon objectives. Participates actively in new product introductions, including influencing the design of the product to ensure manufacturability and conformance with the global supply chain, enabling prototyping while in the R&D lab, testing the reliability of prototypes and managing the transition into production. Supports and implements the transition of products and manufacturing processes from prototype to full production and through the entire life cycle of the product. Partners with procurement and technical services to improve/sustain products and processes.
- Develop new manufacturing processes for optical products with both R&D and Manufacturing teams, per optics design requirements.
- Provide accurate and detailed processes and requirements such as process flow, cost, yield, and throughput monitoring metrics for industrializing and making optical components in house and for outsourcing if applicable.
- Digest optical component specifications to engineer a robust and manufacturable fabrication process flow and steps for production.
- Interface with opto-mechanical and CAD designers to define fabrication tooling and optics inspection methods for performance qualification.
- Drive cost reduction and commit the best process control to make top quality products for customers.
- May direct the work of third-party vendors and/or partners to meet contract specified deliverables, performance, or business objectives.
- May identify and manage ERP data such as bill of material and routing.
Qualifications
Essential:
Minimum 2 years of design and hands-on experience in Optics Assembly and Test:
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optical Sciences or similar technical field.
- In-depth knowledge of geometrical optics and design principles for complex fabrication machines, tools, and opto-mechanical designs.
- Expert in one or more of the following technical areas: optics design, precision opto-mechanics, thin-film coating, and precision glass machining or fabrication.
- Contributor to think and act independently to translate optics specifications or new concepts into tangible manufacturing processes, with a record of delivering successful implementations on schedule.
- Excellent communication and ability to work well in team environment with people at all levels.
- Actively thinking and acting independently to propose or translate ideas and new concepts into tangible results.
Desire:
- Direct design or manufacturing of precision opto-mechanical products such as optical component, lasers, fiber coupling, interferometers or optical system integration
Depth of knowledge on quality control using 6 Sigma, quality management system is highly desirable.
