Job Title: Lead Technical Communications Engineer
Location: Edinburgh
Reports to: Technical Communications Director
Job Overview:
Works independently with peers and cross-functional team members to write and publish product documentation and other related content to support software releases. Content types include (but are not limited to) user guides, reference manuals, release and application notes, feature blogs, video demos, error messages, rapid adoptions kits.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plans, organizes, and writes product documentation independently and under limited supervision from senior colleagues
- Identifies requirements for and produces related release collateral, such as video demos, blogs, application notes, error messages, digital media in collaboration with technical publications and cross-functional peers
- Defines and implements an appropriate structure and organization for the documentation of individual products, or for related products within a defined product area
- Acquires and organizes source material, including applicable specifications, engineering write-ups, and other resources
- Generates, analyzes, and acts on reports for monitoring documentation completeness and quality; for example, comparison reports between software and documentation, customer problem reports, other available metrics
- Provides input and feedback on technical design specifications, user interface design, and design diagrams to improve software quality, consistency, and usability
- Represents the technical publications team in all phases of larger and more-complex cross-functional development projects
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least 5 years’ relevant experience in a technical communications role
- EDA or relevant industry experience preferred
- Experience in digital media, digital marketing, and UI design an advantage
Note: We are also interested in assessing candidates with less experience but a demonstrable and keen interest in technical communications, digital media, electronics, and EDA.
Additional Skills/Preferences:
- Adobe Creative Suite desktop publishing tools, especially FrameMaker, Captivate, Acrobat
- Microsoft Office desktop publishing tools, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Confluence wiki authoring environment; Microsoft Windows operating systems; UNIX and Linux operating systems
- Excellent written and spoken English language skills
- Knowledge of technical publications technologies and methodologies such as DITA, structured authoring, instructional design, online collaborative authoring environments
