Summary/Objective:

The Cable Process Engineer develops new processes, evaluates existing processes, and configures manufacturing systems to add capability, reduce cost, improve sustainability, and develop best practices within the production process.  The main focus of the Process Engineer’s work is on creating and maintaining reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs, and changeovers.

Essential Functions/ Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain core cable manufacturing processes to ensure processes are capable and scalable.
  • Work collaboratively with Operations and Quality to evaluate process health, identify improvement opportunities, and define factory performance metrics. Execute key optimization projects to achieve desired quality, cost, and capacity.
  • Work collaboratively with Product Engineering in the design, development and improvement of processes, tooling, and raw materials.
  • Support QA through implementation of tools for risk-based process assessment, supporting investigations into suspected nonconforming materials, driving appropriate preventive and/or corrective actions, and creating process control plans.
  • Support MEG in machine and tooling development by specifying project requirements and defining/executing qualification activities to ensure requirements are met.
  • Apply appropriate statistical tools and six sigma methodologies to evaluate and control process variables. Collect and analyze production and engineering data to draw conclusions and recommend actions.
  • Perform engineering calculations applying the principles of physics and mathematics for process or equipment, including conceptual, scheme, and detail design.
  • Connect resources and stakeholders from various groups to promote effective collaboration while managing to the cost, timeline, and resource constraints of projects.
  • Work effectively with process technicians to plan and execute engineering trials.
  • Document standard operating procedures and providing training to associates as needed.
“The responsibilities as defined are intended to serve as a general guideline for this position. Associates may be asked to perform additional tasks depending on strengths and capabilities”

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years process engineering or similar experience.
  • Wire and cable processing experience preferred.
  • Polymer processing experience preferred.
  • Experience with continuous manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Project management proficiency.
  • Strong computer skills, data mining, reporting.  Proficient in use of Microsoft Office, R and/or Python, and Minitab/JMP to analyze data, develop and validate process models.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, creative mindset.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple groups both on-site and off-site.
  • Experience in working with vendors to specify and procure capital equipment.
  • Lifting Requirements: Light Work – must be able to lift up to 20 pounds regularly from floor to waist.
  • Hazards: Must be willing to work with and around chemicals, machines and high-temperature tooling and equipment.  Must also be willing to follow all safety regulations and wear required protective gear (PPE).

Preferred Education:

  • B.S. or B.A. in Engineering (Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, etc.) required.
  • Six Sigma problem solving background, certification is highly desirable.
