Commissioning Technicians participate in the estimating, tracking, start up and commission of projects, and will be the customer interface for all technical requirements of assigned projects. You will provide expertise and knowledge throughout the system or service project lifecycle on customer sites. Why is this so important? As a Commissioning Technician, you will:
- Analyze plans, construction contract specifications, and owner standards to determine project requirements and risks.
- Attend pre-booking meetings to gain knowledge of the sales estimate and project scope. Analyze plans, specifications, and contract details to provide input to estimating team such that the most economical method for having systems installed and delivered is incorporated in the design.
- Participate in sales to operations turnover meetings to evaluate accuracy of sales estimates and job layouts.
- Participate in project manager to engineer turnover meetings. Make recommendations to design team related to productivity improvement and cost reduction to increase customer satisfaction and increase profitability of jobs.
- Perform Quality Assurance peer review of engineering documents created by NOC/GOC to ensure they align with customer engineering standards. These documents include, but are not limited to: drawings, specifications, and submittals.
- Design small or medium sized building automation systems consisting of mechanical system layouts, electrical drawings, bills of materials, sequences of operations, valve and damper schedules, and DDC panel layouts to meet the intent of project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Lead technical effort for design-build opportunities without plans or specifications, including controls takeovers.
- Design network architecture to support operator workstations, DDC field panels, and third-party integration devices connected through Ethernet, Siemens P2, Modbus or BACNET.
- Create automation system databases and job-related programming for computer-based building control systems. Oversee the creation of system graphics. Troubleshoot issues, including identifying and debugging software, and diagnosing electrical or pneumatic installation problems.
- Organize and maintain job documentation, including local templates and standards for design, database and graphics.
- Provide on-site assistance with or perform programming, start-up, checkout, commissioning, and validation processes. Participate in job site final walk-through, complete all job closeout documentation, and provide customer training.
- Act as the local lead technical resource to project managers, sales, customers and field specialists
You will make an impact with these qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ experience in the installation and/or maintenance of Building Automation systems
- Ability and willingness to work in a variety of environments in and around mechanical equipment, including climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment, working in ducts, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions; use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet; carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license with limited violations
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7+ years’ experience in the installation and / or maintenance of Building Automation systems
- Must be able to demonstrate ability to read/understand design and construction documents
- Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred

- The pay range for this position is $63,980 – $109,680 / year. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
