Will Cyber War become the next addition after land, sea and air warfare?

How does the SemiWiki community feel where cyber war will mature, if at all? Will cyber war become the next major battlefield or remain in the background? Working in finance, I have already seen the very early stages of cybercrime advance and social media to aid in financial crimes of many types and getting worse. Also, will the most dangerous weapons in this type of warfare be developed by governments, organizations or private individuals? Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

The US already has a navy, army and air force, what we need now is a cyber force, both for offence and defiance.
