Indian team wins contest at NASA

It's inspiring that NASA conducts a world wide program for high school students every year for designing colony in space for human inhabitants. This needs a lot of creative thinking and expertise in terms of aeronautical, structural, civil, chemical, transportation, electrical and electronics engineering as well as management, finance, sociology, team leadership, and so on.

The annual world wide competition termed as "International Space Settlement Design Competition" (ISSDC) is first held at the continent level in each continent and then at the world level in NASA. This year's final round was held on Aug 2 - Aug 4, 2015 at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA.

The lone India team from ASIA continent in the final round was a team of 12 students from Amity International School, NOIDA.
This team won the world wide title. The other participants were from the world over including USA, Europe, Latin America, and so on.

Above is the team of 12 students along with their teacher, coach and leader Smita Fangaria (3rd from left), the competition co-founder Anita Gale (next to Smita), and the CEO of this team's company called Vulture Aviation at NASA KSC John Graves (behind all in the middle) just after winning the title.

The physics department of the school had been trying to achieve this success with teams of senior students every year since last eight years. This year they could make it to the top! Congratulation to them and the school!!

Is Smita Fangaria related to you? Hope you don't mind I ask.

This kind of early exposure to the science and engineering project is a good approach for educating our young generation.

Thanks for asking! Fortunately, Smita is my wife :)

I agree with the kind of exposure such programs provide to budding students who are going to be future engineers in various fields. I admire, NASA's vision and the culture in USA which catalyzes to bring up the talent from across the world.

Congratulations!

Great! Excellent story. This is exactly what tells us that we can learn from others whom we think are not doing things in conventional ways. It's always give and take!
